A frantic local co-op tower defense made during a game jam at the Game Dev Dungeon 2023 retreat class. Play as a flower and a butterfly building and defending floating sky islands!

Project Overview

ORGOT is a hybrid city builder and tower defense game created during a game jam held at Game Dev Dungeon 2023. The Game Dev Dungeon is a retreat class at the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, and the jam itself was centered around the theme “Sky walk”.

Our team was made up of five developers (two artists and three programmers), and we had a unique position during the event: we were actually part of the organizational team for the Game Dev Dungeon retreat class. Because we were running the event, we built this game purely for fun and the love of development, rather than competing in the official jam rankings.

We also used this opportunity to challenge ourselves by learning a new engine, choosing to build the game entirely in Godot. While some of us had a little prior experience with it, it was mostly new territory for the team, making it an intense but rewarding learning experience.

The Premise & Gameplay

You play as a flower and a butterfly who just want to build a peaceful city made up of floating islands connected by sky trails. Unfortunately, the hostile “sky bugs” have a different idea, forcing you to actively defend your creation while continuing to expand.

The game is built from the ground up for asymmetric local co-op, requiring two players to split their responsibilities entirely and communicate constantly to survive:

By completely separating the resource gathering/combat from the spatial city-building, the mechanics force players into a chaotic but highly rewarding cooperative loop where neither player can succeed without the other.
